Hey guys i had been looking for one of these for some time, coz i wanted to complete my officer's Schirmmutze. Member Ralph spotted it and let me know it was for sale (thanks mate

)
So i got it today but wanted to check it with you as it doesn't have the usual smell that 70+ year old items have.

I can't comment on the piece in question but I do know that 'smell' very well and if the smell isn't there, then I would be worried.

These bullion items are always so difficult to authenticate. I will try to burn a thread of the back side to check it out. If the tip is not melting then it is a good sign.

Very difficult to authenticate via photos but this one isn't doing it for me, I would pass.

Back when reproductions were more poorly made , they didn't use real metallic tread . You could test them my touching them to your cheek , if the tread felt cold it was original ,if not it was repro . Fakers use the good thread these day , I've been told . Here is mine to compare .
