Shoulder board cipher question
Hello all,
Can anyone tell me the specific meaning of the number cipher on shoulder boards? I am looking at a heer panzer colonels tunic and he has the number 2 on each board. Does that signify company, regiment, corps? Or was it left up to the individual and there is no way to tell? Thanks

Hello,
The number stands for the regiment. In this case the 2nd Panzer regiment.

Hello Fred,
I was told at one time that since my father was in the 3 Kompanie, Panzer-Regiment 2, 16th Panzer Div. that he would have worn shoulder board buttons with a "2" on them. Is this incorrect?
Thanks,
Ralph.

Ralph,
The button denoted the company.
