    It's an early war helmet, the summer issue type of the LKp W100. These were worn during the BoB by aircrew and I would imagine rather rare these days, as the only other I've seen was in the IWM collection at Cosford.

    So the lace up opening at the back and the repositioning of the electrics isn't a personalised one off thing then, I mean I've seen quite a few LKp S100's in my time but not one that looks like this.

    I must be honest, I never really took a look at the back, so maybe it is a conversion for some reason. Looks professionally done though.

    Yes, trouble is a lot of Luftwaffe helmets were converted to entirely different uses, I know some helmets were converted to Tank Headgear, I agree it looks to be professionally done, if it had been a later LKp S-101 it may have been something to do with jets but obviously this helmet is far to early for that.
