    Default Army dagger by Clemen&Jung

Hi guys! Here's one of my recent finds. It's an army dagger by Clemen&Jung. This maker isn't encountered pretty often and could be considered scarce. Most daggers by this maker are stamped on both sides of the blade. On one side the shield with the letter Z and on the other side the full name of the company. But the single side stamped blades are also found. Maybe they forgot to stamp the other side or it is just a variation of the factory. Who knows. Anyhow, here's one that's single stamped. The plated blade is in great shape and it is fitted with a WKC 1st style crossguard. A very nice early piece. Enjoy the pictures.

Nice one Danny! I have been looking for one of these early C&J Heers with these fittings. I wonder if they had a slant? This is very much like a nice example owned by my friend Tom Kendall. Are you sure the blade is plated? C&J often has a flatter finish polished blade but there isn't hardly any crossgrain..Kevin.

Thx for showing this early beauty Danny!

you have showed me how much variaty there is in crossguards, pommels, scabbards/bands and grips.
More and more the Heer daggers creep under my skin tearing me away from the SA/NSKK daggers
The pommel and crossguard are nicely done, handwork realy shows off!

btw it was nice seeing you agian last Friday eventho my Heersection has a few gaps now

    Regards,
    Ger

Rare dagger!. Clemen and Jung did not produce many army daggers in the early years with most of their daggers having generic fittings from 1937 onwards.
I cannot ever remember seeing a slant C&J Kevin although those fittings suggests it is very possible. This dagger is highly desirable, not only because it is a rare maker with early configuration but for the maker mark specialists out there. The single SMALL stamped shield only appears on initial production C&J's as far as I am aware?.
The firm used E-Pack fittings as well before going Generic.

Thanks for the kind comments guys! I was really happy to find this one. I love the quality of these early daggers and a rare maker is always a nice bonus.
Kevin: I think you are right about the finish of the blade. At first I thought it was plated but after taking another good look I think it is as you say, a different kind of finish. Very interesting. Thanks for pointing that out.
Degens: thanks for the extra info on the trademark!
Ger: it was indeed very nice seeing you again last week. We also learned something new about Eickhorn blades. Even two blades that are made in the same period (both double oval trademark) have different dimensions. One was thicker than the other! And I'm sorry for the gaps I caused in your heer section But you know they went to a good home and you are more than welcome to visit them any time you like
