New pick up heer sword

    Default New pick up heer sword

    Hello guy's i have just picked this up from a friend, WMW maker marked (max Weysberg) model nr 404 its never been in a collection he got it straight from the vets famiy, blade is as good as mint, it has some tiny paint speck's on the grip and scabbard and i am wondering if you have any idea's in the best way to remove them carefully?

    Hi Ronnie, looks great!

    The paint, if emulsion, should come off OK with a bit of warm soapy water on to a cloth: just enough to dampen the cloth. Give it a careful rub over a tiny bit at a time. Just be careful of the grip.

    Hi Ronnie, try some Sheratons leather balsam, it cleans and protects the leather but can also remove specks of paint, use a clean cloth with a little pressure, there is another way but its a bit risky, ive used this method on a german belt of my friends that had spots of gloss paint on, you take a modelling craft knife with a very narrow blade, a magnifying glass and carefully shave the top layers of paint off without touching the leather, then clean with balsam, you need a steady hand and a bit of bravado but it worked for me
