This SMF Slant Heer dagger is a textbook example IF it wouldnt have been equiped with an Iron based crossguard.
The blade, grip and fittings are in very good condition, the scabbard had a so called " stick between the door" dent
Silvering has Always been a bit of a weak spot with these SMF Slants and this one has a pommel that shows that.
The condition of this one with the dented scabbard aint mint but it is a very rare one.
Experimental iron fittings are hard to find..
    Regards,
    Ger

Lovely Heer Slant Ger..the crossgraining is exceptional ...A question for me and the readers..is it common for SMF to use Ironbased fittings?...as per your quote above. Sounds disappointing yet The eagle is in a class of its own. Regards Larry

Larry looking at its hardware its a complete textbook Smf
The crossguard is a textbook 1st Smf, but what makes it very rare is that its an iron based guard, maybe 1 on 20 is ironbased ( that part isnt standard textbook) so not disappointment at all ment

Ger, It would not have been a disappoint for me either - because I like to see the different examples of how the Germans adapted to the changes in manufacturing that took place for one reason or another. With 1935 a published date when nickel silver (and other metals) were no longer to be supplied for civilian sector manufacturing because of the military rearmaments program. With the pommel itself also looking interesting because in the image to me it appears to be brass(?) underneath the plating. Very nice! Best Regards, Fred

Ger, Nice piece there! Great extra hand work to the bird and pommel details. Not the light SMF we usually find! Interesting how SMF used brass on the pommel and Iron base on the guard, unlike Alcoso that was magnetic all around on their Eisenkopf. I suppose there must have been all brass hilts by SMF too. Kevin.
