Article about: I picked this guy up today. It's a strange thing with the big eye on the eagle. It's a vet purchase so I'm not worried about it... it's just different.

    Holler 4th pattern crossguard perhaps?

That is a close match it appears.

Cross guard is a lot brighter... Is it original to this dagger? Wreath detail is different to others I've seen recently. I'm no expert though.

I bought it from the son of the vet that brought it home... I have no reason to doubt this man and his wife's story. I assume it is as brought back.

If it is holler 4th, they look to be pretty scarce. Next closest might be WKC 3rd?

Nice variation and with a very appealing pumpkin grip to boot. Nice find!

Holler punched eye version of Pack fittings..a single rear scabbard screw would further that trend. Chances are that the fittings are pot metal based with the typical plating loss seen on these Pack later type fittings, I have been wrong but I would bet this is the case. Kevin.

I thought they might have been aluminum because the guard and pommel were VERY light. I can weigh them tomorrow as well.

    I agree with Kevin,

i would also settle for a pack guard, the angle of the feathers beneath, more a straight triangle is more Pack style then Holler.
I like the alu type Heers
