Article about: Hello everyone Hope someone can help. Do you think the decal on this wwii helmet is original or fake? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

This is actually an M42 shell. You will notice particularly in the second shot of the inside that the edge is not rolled. This ceased with the introduction of the M42 and was a austerity measure as the war effort required very short turnaround times.

Thank you Andy, and thanks again MAP and Adravor. I don’t have the helmet to hand MAP, but I will try to get more and better photos later today.

    Hello everyone
I’ve managed to get a few more photos. If there’s anything else in particular you’d like to see please ask.

Although the Decal has this weird missprint, i would tend to the helmet being completly original, as the whole apperance matches. Seems like the helmet was a barn/attic find, and some mice have eaten on the liner, but i like the general look of it.
I would still wait for other Opinions though.

It's in very salty condition but looks original to me. As noted, a HJK decal on a EF shell.

Thanks to Adravor, Blackdog, Schwerpunkt and MAP for your comments. Is there anyway that the rust can be sympathetically removed or halted please?

As far as i know there are methods for removing the rust... but i wouldnt do that. In a dry enviroment the helmet wont rust further, and the existing rust is part of the helmets patina and thus part of the piece itself. I would just put it on a shelf like it is.
