    Good morning
I am french, my english is not perfect...
I possess a helmet that I have bought as australian because it has no rim arount the edge. I had not studied it more because of that
I have recently read that England has also made helmets without rim during the second WW, in 1941, for the Home Guard, by BMB
I have discovered that the liner of my helmet is BMB 1/1940 size 7
You can see with the photos, the screw, the liner, the chinstrap
Red stripes on the chinstrap, before the springs, on the both sides, above and under, and a rest of a little piece of paper taken in the seam
No letter or number on the chinstrap lug
    The chinstrap is amagnetic
On the edge of the metal, beside the lug, I read, difficultly, "1941", "1" above and nearby nummers, perhaps "420", perhaps something other but impossible to read under the painting
Is it really a Home Guard helmet or an australian or other?
If it is a BMB, I am astonished that the carving in the metal is so bad, usually the BMB carving are very clear
And why a liner of 1940?
    Thank you for your help
    Georges

Hi Georges and welcome to the forum. The helmet does appear to be a 1941 dated BMB homefront UK made example. No problem with a 1940 dated liner, just using up old stock I expect.

In future can you post pics directly to the forum using the site uploader rather than use image shack.
    Regards,

    Jerry

A British BMB made 1941 dated Mk2, the only ones the British made during WW2 without the rim as far as I know, there is one with a rolled edge.
During early 1941 it was agreed to use a certain number of BMB made Mk2 No.1 helmets but without the stainless steel rim, they were for home use only. You see a lot of these helmets were used by the NFS, they are quite often sold as WW1 helmets too.

    Thank you very much
Now, with a photo of a carving which looks like the mine (and more clear), I have a certainty
Now I must look for an australian helmet, in Europe if possible...

On the other side of your helmet Georges, here's a Australian Helmet being sold as a British home front one.
Although the paint looks good, I never buy a helmet that's been repainted on the inside as well, so any Australian experts seen this before on one of their helmets. Also is the nut & bolt ok, I always thought Australian ones were the large type. Also is the chin strap Aussie or British?
Sorry in advance if pics are small.
