    I think the shell is South African, because of the 3 holes at the back. I don't know much about the liner/chinstrap, let's see what the others think.

    The 3 widely spaced holes in the rim are usually only seen on South African made helmet shells.

    i had a feeling it wouldnt be british just didnt look right i had a couple of other british ones, which i sold and at the time i thought i would keep this one as it was in the best condition. would it be ww2 era? cheers guys

    It could be, they were used by the British troops in Africa. If memory serves, the holes are made so the soldiers could attach a cloth cover, so they don't get sunburn on the backs of their necks. However the covers were never issued. I don't know anything about their post war use. Check the liner to see if there's any manufacturers info.

    If you do a forum search there are threads covering the SA helmet and it's history, or so I think.

    nitram no there are no markings on the liner or stamps at all it all looks fairly new to be honest?

    I think it's a WW2 South African MkII but with a post war liner, probably Greek or Israeli.
