    Hi,
British helmet, no liner, elastic strap with 1940 on rivet plates, no other markings evident.

    Hi,
It means the helmet did not pass the safety/strength tests to be used as a combat helmet and would have been isssued to non coms, such as police etc...4 holes means its a 1D made of mild steel

    Hi Jim,
nice old helmet shell though, you could always get a liner and complete it. You beat me to the answer vonbond, lol.

Oh yeah! (was in a hurry earlier).
Good to know it's all proper, not done in metalwork class or summat!
can't be that common or i'd have seen one before-so I'm chuffed (little things......!)
