Picked this up from a Charity shop today

So what can anyone tell me?

I dont think its a Home Guard lid , even they wouldnt get away with painting a very rough rank like that , the chin strap is wrong for the helmet,, english that is, look inside ,,the cross piece of the liner should have a date and size stamp, it should be just under the rubber head support, lift it up and check

    Hi,
It's a MkII No.2C, 3 holes drilled in the brim. For civilian use only, & with that sandy paint finish most likely home guard.
Shame about the stripes on the front, but it has a rare makers name on the liner

Sorry that photo didnt come up on my lap top, as Aaron said but i still doubt its home guard, every home guard helmet ive had or seen has been a regular WD issue

Thanks guys. The strap is correct. The helmet hasn't been messed with and also has the makers stamp on which is same as liner/helmet.
I thought the 3 holes along with the finish would mean army but not frontline I.e Home Guard. I may try and remove the stripes if they come off gently

P.s. Dave, how can you tell a homeguard from a Frontline Helmet!?

I believe it is a Home Front helmet as evidenced by the holes stamped in the brim. I believe this was done to "poorer quality" regular helmets that did not pass acceptance standards.

Everything about the helmet surgests that it is a homeguard one, I think all MkII No.2 D's that were painted khaki were for the homeguard. All other No.2D's were painted grey & were for use by the ARP.
