Nice early helmet, seen plenty of use, with a great camo.

Thanks tinlid for taking an interest. do you have any ideas what they would have made the coating from , Its definitely sand based just wondering what it's mixed with.

    Paint and sand I guess.

Looks like this was repainted with a very stiff brush, or the paint was thick, or both.
Hard to tell where this might have been used, the Med', or Northern Europe?

I used to own this helmet a few years ago, always wondered about the green paint on the inside.

..that lower coat is somewhat verdant isn't it..... But if the top coat's right then the underlying ones have to be. Perhaps it was a regretted application which was later/hurriedly over-painted...after all, it's not unusual for folk to dislike a colour they've originally thought would look good eh Mr Tinlid....

The green colour you can see on the inside brim which hasn't been over painted, reminded me of the paint used when applying transfers.
I expect some of that green went into the final paint finish you see now.

Here's an interesting insight into repainting of steel helmets, although the use of grey is a bit of a head scratcher.
