Default Canadian(?) MKI - FOUND IN TRASH!

I found this helmet in the trash heap today.

    The shell is marked: O.L./ C. 1942. 82.

    The liner is marked: 7 3/4. VCM. I. 1941.

It is missing it's chin strap. It's liner is a little crispy, but is overall in great shape! Other than my U.S. M1 helmets, this is the only helmet that fits my fat head!

Can someone tell me more about this helmet and it's markings?

Where can I get a replacement chin strap?

    How much is it worth?

    Thanks for looking!

I cannot see the photos...........Try ebay for a
chinstrap. 7-3/4" is a rather large lid !

    Steve.

Nice find! A trash heap where?

Double check helmet stamp to see if the ”O” is not really a “C”.

    C.L./C. = Canadian Lamp Company.

Are you sure it’s VCM and not VMC on the liner?

    VMC = Viceroy Manufacturing Company.

Yes, that is a large liner size for sure.

As to value, I’m no expert, but maybe $50 - ??

    Regards,
    Tony

Someone please correct me if I am wrong but I'm pretty sure that's a MKII! MKI's issued to Canada where all Brit variations. Canada did not start making it's own helmet until 1940, MKII variation.

    C.L./C. - Canadian MotorLamp Co.

    VMC - Viceroy Manufacturing Company

I see MKII chin straps on Ebay every now and again, 20 bucks or so.

    Nice Trash Find AGAIN!!!!

I have three Canadian Mk IIs like that. I only wanted one, somehow I won three on ebay. Chinstraps are easy enough to find to but $20 is too much to pay. But it's hard to get actual Canadian chinstraps. But brand new British straps are readily available.
