Drilled holes on MKII helmets.

    Yes, the holes in the brim signify that the shell is sub-standard. I believe the designations for the shells is Mark II No 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D, being the one, two, three and four hole variety respectively. I think each type reflects a different reason for being rejected. All were suitable for use as helmets in certain roles, such as Civil Defence, but nor for front line usage.

    Thanks Joseph. Usually I just know where to look, although I don't know why i didn't think of your website for the info on this.

    It seems to me that if these reject and soft metal helmet shells are Mk II No 2, then the regular hard steel military type must be a Mk II No 1, right? I have a feeling the correct 'military nomenclature' for a helmet shell is actually a 'Body'.
