    Default English MK1 helmet

    Hello gents,
    Question ( no pictures yet...):
    I have a English MK1 helmet with the inscription G.S.W. 1941.
Also, a "S" stamped in it. It is in perfect condition. Leather insert, chinstrap, it is all there....
Anybody knows what G.S.W. means? If pictures are needed, I can send those later..
    Any info is appriciated
    Thanks

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

The helmet is actually Canadian made. "GSW" is General Steel Wares.

    Cheers, Ade.

Hi Dave, I just live and breathe this stuff.

I should mention that the liner will be made by Viceroy Manufacturing Co. as they made all the liners for wartime Canadian made helmets.

    Cheers, Ade.

Wow, that is fast! Thanks! Is this a common thing, Canadian made? And if it is issued to the ministery of Defense, shouldn't it have a broad arrow on it somewhere?

OH, I forgot, is there a logo for this Viceroy Manufacturing Co?

    My pleasure.

Canadian made helmets are not particually rare. The steel shell will not have a Broad Arrow WD marking, but the liner may well have a white ink stamp of an arrow surrounded by a letter "C" (for Canada). But this will not be visible as it is on the underside. Do NOT take the liner out to look though as this can devalue it.

You should be able to see the "VMC" marking and size and date stamp on the liner.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Take a look here:

    Casco

The site is in Spanish, but the pics tell the story.

I have a Mark 1 helmet marked MB 1939. Would this be Canadian manufactured?
