Help ID: Brodie/Doughboy Odd Liner

Article about: Havn't seen this style liner before. It's in a brodie/doughboy helmet, not sure which, helmet is not in my hands. Civil Defense lid maybe. Split rivit makes it Brit? Anyone seen one of these

I recently just bought one of these at a ww2 event and from what the guy told me was that it's American and is probably ww1 or post war, you are the first person who I've seen with this too and I can't seem to find it anywhere else, the liner in mine is black whereas yours is green and mine has some netting in it
