Help identifying this helmet

Hello,
I not a military collector but I came across this item thinking it was an old football helmet. Is this an aviation helmet from WWI? It was made by a sporting goods manufacturer Alex Taylor and co. of New York. Any info, rarity, and value great be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Looks like a 1920's dog ear football helmet to me

Thanks for the replies! I was a bit confused with it when I stumbled across this. The ear flaps are very similar.
