    Default Mk2. Afs, railway.

This one came without a liner and is quite worn, but as I live in station house, on an ex southern line, why not.
I think the helmet is a private purchase, due to the rivets on the chin strap lugs, and no maker names stamped anywhere.
To the front AFS, (Auxiliary Fire Service) and RAILWAY, to the rear is S Rly (Southern Railway)
Painted on the inside brim is the number 23,so at least that number in the fire brigade at, I assume that station. Which must have be quite a good size station, or works station.
Most likely the lettering was done by one of the sign writers, the black painted helmet also has the exact style of letters.
