I have got a few MKIIs Army type helmets with these economy nuts with washers, but I've always wondered if they might be home guard . Is there any evidence the Army used the economy nuts ?

Being made of brass they are non magnetic, so no reason not to be used on an army helmet.
But have no information one way or the other whether they were just used on HG helmets.
But someone we know would have the answer.

Were the washers added as an after-thought ? Seems an odd change to make to the old MKI screw.

To me there doesn't seem much difference from the Mk1/Mk2 nut and bolt and this with an washer. You also see them without the washer.
