Mk2 No2.C Home Guard, with net
A near mint condition home guard Mk2 No2.C, apart from being made of mild steel this helmet, net & liner are exactly as a standard army Helmet, Steel, Mk2 No.1.
The net is the early woven type. Both shell & liner are dated 1940 & made by BMB, the liner cotton padding has an ink stamp on, probably a quality control one.
Thats a Great Piece, as you said it looks near mint!
Very interesting piece was it just home guard lids that were mild steel, or was it other (behind the lines) groups like ARP and fire brigade etc?...
Lovely condition example, hard to beat this one I think.

Whateverits just an opinion.
A lot of the homefront helmets were made of the lesser quality steel and are marked by a number of holes drilled into the brim.by Gunny Hartmann

Also on the flip side many auxiliary Helmets that were issued were the same grade 1 as Army helmets just differant colour and texture.
Their were the 4 types of No2's, A-D with 1-4 holes in the brim to donate use for the home front only, & not military use.
Their was also a couple of other types of steel helmets, & with their design they were clearly for non military use.
Although to start with the home guard would have used whatever helmets they could get, (as there was a shortage)
But the standard home guard helmet would have had khaki green textured paint on the outside, or later inside & out.
They were also issued with the standard army Mk2 No1 as supplies allowed, mostly from mid 1941.
