    Default MkII with ORIGINAL NET

A nice early MkII with the original factory finish paint on the inside, the outside has been repainted with the mid war gritty khaki colour, probably 41-42.
There are still traces of a flash to one side, red, ?, white or maybe light green. The net which has been on there since day dot has worn away around most of the rim of the helmet, it's the early war type which are hard to find. The shell was made by J.S.S & 1938 was the first year that this company made them, the liner is also dated 38 but made by VERO.

This type of net is one of the early types used, might be refered to as the woven type? I know Marcus Cotton will be doing a big section on nets when his book eventually come out. There are others very similar to this one & they all seem to be from the start of the war, the more common knotted nets came out later, maybe 43/44 onwards.

Well hopefully there will be 2 books coming out, 1 on British military helmets the other on British home front helmets. But who knows when they will finally get out though, been waiting a long time for a decent reference book on Brit lids.

Wow, I'm very surprised that there's a lack of reference material on such an iconic helmet.
