Picked up this mark 2 helmet with a Viceroy liner size 7 1942 but the chinstrap lug rivets are odd. I cant find any manufacturers stamp in the shell , only a capital V. It is gloss paint one coat over the original finish inside, and a heavy coat of matt paint out. Non magnetic also. Any help with it appreciated as I know there are lots of smart guys here.!!! Thanks in advance for your help.

I wonder if it's an Mk1*, refurbished WW1 helmets done late 30's. I know the British did this, Canadians?
The V could be for Vickers Ltd 1916-17.
Otherwise an reject WW2 issue Mk2.

Sorry Tinlid, I meant that it probably was not a Mark 2 shell if it had no rim and more likely a Mark 1.

Hopefully someone will have some information about this one, interesting the way the rivets have been done on the chin strap lugs.

Yes Canada did convert Mk.I helmets to Mk.I*s. in 1940 25,000 extra liners, chin-straps and lugs were ordered for this purpose. This is the first time I have seen a rimless helmet so converted in Canada, but why not? I have examples of both Mk.Is and M1917s converted to Canadian Mk.I*s.
Here is an example with flat rivets

The dark green gloss paint is a post-war feature, which shows how these helmets could soldier on.
