All I can say is the buckles don't look British or from The Commonwealth going by what I have. Get your money back

The end part of the buckle would slip over the chin strap lug like the Mk3 elasticated one would. Although you wouldn't use Warbuff's example on a Mk3 as I think they were only used on the home front.
A bit naughty sending you that one Warbuff, unless you asked for one like that, they should have sent a normal Mk2 chin strap.
I had a pic of a Canadian soldier with one of these on his MkIII helmet...lost it now. I do think they were used in small numbers during the war.
Great picture, that nails it that they were used by the army, & probably at home too.
