Christmas presents 2010 - 1/6th scale !

Article about: The 30cal is well on its way. Should be finished soon. The little brass parts are a nice touch. I suppose they couldn't make the plastic that thin for these brackets Steve T

    Default Christmas presents 2010 - 1/6th scale !

    Hi all

Finally got some additions to go with my 1/6th scale MG42, (see here 1/6th Scale MG42 and Tripod - 2nd Christmas present ! ).

The 30cal can be constructed into one of two versions, as can the MG15. The 60mm mortar comes with a 1/6th scale M1 Garand which is brilliant......I love that weapon

The book is also truly amazing, showing wartime aerial photos and airfield plans for all the airbases. Really useful for narrowing down my search for a new site to MD on.

I'll update this thread with progress on each of the models. Keep an eye out!

    Cheers

    Steve T

You should have started this thread earlier. My brother had a few of these boxes with soldiers etc. I could ask him if he could get more of them.

    Cheers,

    Progress report.....

I've started on the mortar and Garand.

First picture shows the tripod has been constructed and various bits of the Garand with their first coat of paint. It isn't until the final assembly that I am too concerned about accurate 'cutting in' of the various colours. I usually do that just prior to the application of the 'dirtying' method I use to give these things a worn look.

A little later on and the Garand has had the stock painted and a couple of pieces I'd already painted glued together. As soon as this coat is dry I can assemble the Garand. The tripod has had a second coat, with one leg given a 'steel' look. The thread for the upper assembly has also been painted steel.

Ok. M1 Garand and 60mm mortar complete

Here they are. For an idea of size, the Garand is roughly 6 inches long

The mortar is fully positionable and the Garand can be 'cocked'. I put a clip in the correct place but it was just too big to close it back up Maybe I'll shave one of the clips down a little to accomodate it

The decals on the mortar rounds finish them off nicely.
