Default Any online resource for tracking allied POW's during WW2.

Hi All, My 1st post on here and hoping someone might be able to help. My Grandfather went out to Europe with the BEF at the start of the war. Survived Dunkirk and apparently ended up in the bag at the fall of Tobruk. He would never talk about the war much and died relatively young My Dad has a tatty little picture of himself aged about 4 wearing an ARP helmet and cowboy gunbelt that his Dad carried right through the war. (There was a larger penciled copy as well but that was stolen from my Grandfather before his return to the UK after the war). I'm wondering if there is anywhere where I could research where he was held etc. Long shot I know. Cheers, Mike.

I don't think there is anything online but you can visit the national archives at kew and look at the questionaires filled out by all returning P.O.Ws In there you might find the details you are looking for.

    Fantastic!

    Camp number 344,

    POW Number 31295,

    Name R. S. Shepherdson,

    Rank C S M,

    Army Number 4343570,

    Regiment. East Yorks.

I've found out he was with the 4th East Yorks which was a territorial regiment taken mainly from the Hull area. They were basically wiped out near Tobruk, as far as my Dad can recall. My Grandad was forced to work down the mines in Poland and when the Russians got too close was force marched back to Germany. My Dad has a vague idea that his Dad spent time in Stalag 7B but has no clear idea where this bit of info' came from.

Hi All. Been a while since I've visited on here and some progress made though big changes in personal life have pushed research to back of mind, Never mind, Over 4 stone lighter, none smoking and now single lol. Funny how wrong you can be about some people. Anyway here's a good bit. Following up from help on here I contacted the ICRC and a year later.............
