Just a heads up for a new Pen & Sword hardback military history title due out possibly in mid 2017. The book is called A Dove Amongst Eagles-The Exploitation and Militarisation of German Female Youth in Hitler's Third Reich. The book is the result of four years of research and consists of first hand testimonies from over twenty women who as young girls were indoctrinated into the two main female Hitler Youth organisations the Jung Madel and Bund Deutscher Madel. It explores what life was like for young girls and women under the Third Reich, joining the JM and BDM, their activities and how both organisations began to affect their home lives and the relationships between themselves and their parents and elders, life on the land in the RADw, the terror of the air raids as German cities were bombed systematically around the clock and the militarisation of young girls and women under the Volksturm and Werewolf projects. Some of the women did become involved in the fighting in and around Aachen and they tell their stories of what happened for the first time. There are also accounts from women who as young girls joined the fighting in a vain attempt to try and defend Berlin from the onslaught of the Russian Red Army. The book contains some very harrowing reading as accounts of rape, beatings and murder are told for the first time, including testimonies from British and American nurses who treated some of the victims some as young as ten years old!. The book concludes with an overview of the aftermath of the Third Reich and how their lives would change yet again particularly in the East where one dictatorship was exchanged for another. Just an update on the forthcoming book A Dove Amongst Eagles. This is the cover/jacket for the book which i have just received from the art department and well pleased with the job done so far.
