During the Second World War, Germany made use of Sovjet citizens who were disaffected by the Stalinist regime. Hundred of thousands of men and women initially volunteered for service in the German Army. Tens of thousands also joined the German police and SS forces.
This is the story of one of the most obscure Russian collaborationist formations.
The "Druzhina" SS Formation was a brigade of Russian volunteers raised by the German SD. The formation, raised in late 1941 and initially planned to be used behind the Sovjet front lines, quickly proved to be the most effective indigenous anti-partisan unit in the German arsenal.
