Heydrich's "grave." ?

Article about: Apropos the odd post wisely closed by others in the sense of good hygiene, I was under the impression that the part of the Invaliden Friedhof in Berlin, whence Heyrdrich was buried was then

Much finger-pointing, and feigned preeminence going on here . . . short legs posturing from a high saddle, my Dad might say.

You guy's kill me . . . it's like witnessing a battle of Librarians and Lawyers. Not entirely unexpected, but no less Pitiful.
In early posts you were quite proud of your reading and were happy to share what you read with the rest of us. There are many people here who want to read books.

And many want to read good books. The neo Nazis, the brown shirt fetishists, Heydrich wanna be's and digital storm troopers have a semi pornographic connection to all of this,
which usually is not founded in what a real historian does. Or they are revisionists, apologists, Holocaust deniers, and denizens of a political fringe which is busily making a comeback amid the crisis.

If you are uncomfortable with the things that some of us write here, then take it up with Adrian Stevenson, or Larry C or Bob Coleman.

I am sure they will be eager to give you a full hearing.

And the best of the season to you, as well.

Let me say something else. One of the ways I figure out whether a person is a political fanatic and using this site for their goals is to see if they read serious books.

In the main, those who do not real books have some other motive than those associated with this site.

I have been pretty successful with this method, actually, and the proprietors are at pains to keep this place clean of political detritus.

An odd posting a couple of days ago sparked me to make this thread.

The evidence of the past is contradictory. There is no unified interpretation of old things. They are a mystery.

Serious people debate what these things mean, and maybe this debate makes certain people uncomfortable or even resentful.

I deal with this kind of thing on an hourly basis in my work, and have done so for decades.

And, Mr. Wyeth, this is not the Wehrmacht Awards Forum.

There is so much to read... I'll be lucky to read the books I already have, but I still buy more all the time. I think the only way I'll read them is if I get off this machine, walk away, and read, at least several hours a day, not always possible but I'm really considering lately.

I understand about time, I'm heading into the waning epoch myself... only so much time.

The internet is all the things you say, good and bad, too easy and and also potentially frustrating and sometimes confusing... but I thank your presence here, and this forum. There is a lot of education and human connections here, and all it costs us is the time (and money for the people who run it).

Sometimes I'm here to look at other people's things, sometimes to learn about items of show mine, but sometimes it is really serious and on a much different level than just acquiring things, and then you encounter the darker side of this hobby...

    Vielen Dank
Happy reading. Much of what passes for education in the internet is not. Rather, it is something else, and I, for one, do not stand around with my hands in pockets

looking at the ceiling in the face of various phenomena that have an impact on the world of flesh and blood.

Sadly, in my native country, there is an aggressive mood of proto book burning and thuggery which, in another epoch, was central to our subject.

Thanks for your interest and do bear with my school master habits. I do it in real life.

I do not read as much as I used to, not the least because of this mechanism. Time is precious and we all waste a lot of time being drawn into little skirmishes that are

    a form of robbery.

This site has some very learned and diligent persons who have done enormous research, and they share it quite freely.

Absolutely...it cannot be stated clearly enough how imperative it is to focus on primary sources whenever possible.

Thanks, as ever, to you F-B for your continued efforts and contributions in this area.

    Carl

Thanks for all your wonderful work for this site, with such interesting and useful pictorial and documentary material.

We are all much richer for what you have done for us.

Thank you much for your keyboard athletics FB ;-) And your opinions. I respect the opinions of wise people. I think we can all learn something almost all the time if we are trying, and [I think] I'm pretty good about gleaning the relevant from the nonsense out there, whether it be in the form of information or the items we more or less cherish if I dare use that word.

One troubling thing about the world is that I think we are devolving as a species, to me this is more apparent all the time. When certain generations leave our world, and they already are... the loss will not be replaced. Cannot be replaced. Will not be replaced. I just hope enough brilliant people are paying attention now to hopefully pass it on to whoever they can in the future.

With people like you still around, we might be in our heyday of collecting as we speak.

"looking at the ceiling" I feel like sometimes I spend so much time on Third Reich studies that I don't even pay attention to what is going on in the world, which is bad... but I soon as I start looking I find myself getting quickly saturated and stop, but I always go back to this. I suppose it is - and always has been - a form of escape from reality, to study history rather than the present.

Then again where I live, miles away from anyone and in relative peace, I can afford to pay attention to something different than the woods and the birds and the colors in the sky... the increasingly crazy weather seems to be our main concern and our main concern for the near future.

I take it you mean this "native country" to be Deutschland?

Dear Sir, thanks for such a nice and thoughtful response. I am a US citizen.

My comments about looking at the ceiling are not intended for you at all.

The statement was directed at those who would burn books and rip up constitutions and pervert laws to create a totalitarian state.

These people are getting their chance again, as happened in former times.

This site should not be a mechanism for their goals.

My comment was not intended for you in this connection.

It was for this "woman" and her "historical novel" on Heydrich, which pushed my button.

I do not deserve much praise, rather more pity for the time wasted on 19,000 posts.

You are right about the loss of knowledge with generations.

My sole remaining teacher is all of 91 years of age and we collaborate weekly on projects.

He is a remarkable man and I have known him for forty three years and what good in my life chiefly came from him.

It is a thing I feel intensely for very personal reasons that I shall not examine here, since it is not warranted.

I was confronted by two people in Germany recently about sharing my knowledge. They were much younger than me, and I do not honestly

know how I could do this thing other than what we have done with this site in the effort to attract some very sound persons of much learning.

What gripes me in the present is that this sharing of knowledge is so discounted by so many, and in such a cavalier and dismissive manner.

Such a thing makes me very aggressive.

Mr. Larboard, thanks for your fine contribution to this site and we are eager to be at your service in whatever you deem your wish.

Thanks for the unwarranted kind words. The real contribution here is made by others.

I have also always been interested in Heydrich, whereby the new biographies of his associates get the essence of the man, and I have been reading

books about him since the middle 1960s.

I got this from someone in Austria just now.

"...Thanks for your help! I know my question sounds a bit stupid, but I'm a complete newbee in history research. Many thanks for your informative hints!

    Best regards ..."

Some of us are trying to help these people.

The best of the season to you, Mr. Larboard and happy reading.

Let's keep this civil. This comment is unnecessary and only asks for verbal retort. It has nothing to do with the subject of this thread. Insults will only lead you to the forum's door.

Thanks, Bob, and in view of your post and the need in the holiday season for peace and harmony, I make use of my privilege to close this thread as happened with the "woman" and "her" "Heydrich novel." Happy holidays and much peace and serenity to you all.
