    I think using militaristic symbolically during wartime, to decorate Christmas trees was quite a common occurrence, as a remember in George Stevens "D-Day to Berlin" footage U.S. GI's decorating a Christmas tree for December 1944 with Mk2 Frag grenades instead or class baubles.

    As I mentioned in a previous thread there is a Nazi propaganda film made in late 1942/early 1943 called 'Christmas in Germany'-a hoot especially the complete lack of the mention of Jesus Christ (a non person at the time apparently).
