    Mate,

This is one of my speacalist areas what exactly do you want to know, what is your specific interest ?

SS Pz Auf Abt 11 was at this time commande by SS Hauptsturnfuhrer Rudolf Saalbach who won the RK for actions from mid to late Janaury 1944 during the retreat from the Oranianbaum pocket area to Narva.

On the date in question the Auf Abt was in action together with 1 Kompanie SS Pi Btl 11 and some mixed combat capable units of the 10 Luftwaffe Feld Division.

They were fighting in the Djatlezy area with the 2 Kompanie at Kapyloschka ??? This Kompanie was led by SS Obersturmfuhrer Heckmueller. From 17th -21st Jan they were at Alt Bor and fought off Soviet attacks at Kosherizy and Bor . They were fighting as part of the Wengler Kampfgruppe of 227 ID.

    regards

    Paul

    Hi mate,

I am doing a bit of research into a Willy Buchholz who was an SS soldier, he fell on the 16th January 1944 at Kapyloschka whilst fighting with the above unit so i expect 2 Kompanie?

I have a portrait photo taken of him with a nice dedication on the back.....

    Regards, Donnie.

Interesting thread!! Not a lot of info to share, but here's a rare photo of an SS Pz. Aufkl. Abt 11 Hanomag Sdkfz 251/9 'Stummel'.

On board is RK winner Casper Sporck. The pic was taken in Russia.

Thanks so much guys for your help, is it only SS officers that you can research or can other ranks be researched aswell?

Kasper Sporck was an SS Unterscharfuhrer witht 5 Heavy Kompanie , they were equipped with Kanonenwagen.

He was a legend in the Abt as a real daredevil and was awarded the Ritterkreuz for combat operations in Estonia and Latvia.

In general unless they are RKT / DKiG / CCC in Gold it is easier to research officers rather than nco's / men etc.

The photo Ned has posted is most definately not taken in Russia more likely southern Estonia or Latvia , the only time SS Pz Auf Abt 11 was in action in Russia was in January 1944 south of the Oranianbaum pocket , Snow camo only required at that time of year !!!
