Just finished reading my copy and I highly recommend the book. It's not one for the beginner, but if you have a reasonable knowledge of the LSSAH it makes fascinating reading. As well as focussing on Knittel, it also serves as a good history of the Aufklarungsabteiling right through from France 1940, the Eastern Front and Normandy and of course, the Bulge.

Very 'readable', plenty of relevant photos, and enlivened by many first-hand accounts. The author made contact with a number of key figures in the story before they passed away - and their memories make the book invaluable.

The 'Bulge section' is certainly no disappointment. Actions which are covered only sketchily in other histories are here covered in detail - it's a book which will be accompanying me on my next visit to the area.

A must for Bulge aficionados !
