    Hello everyone:

I had to go through an emergency surgery last sunday and have been recovering just fine. I got a lot of TV time to watch classics like "The World At War" and "Band of Brothers" and I got to thinking. As I watched Capt. Nixon drown his problems with VAT 69 on a few episodes of Band of Brothers, I asked myself... "What was the favorite drink of most American and German soldiers/officers." and "Why am I talking to myself" then continued to take my meds..

But, what do you guys think? What was the most popular with the German troops? What was the most popular with the American troops?

I know Hitler didn't drink but what about Himmler or Goering?

    Thanks
    Cody

For the Soviets the answer is simple... VODKA and lots of it!

I've heard that U.S. troops received rations of beer with lower alcohol contents, the Soviets had rations of vodka, and the Japanese had saki and beer.

But in all seriousness, I think most soldiers/ soldaten/ frontoviki would drink whatever they could find. Cognac, schnapps, and wine found in farmhouse cellars would be my guess!

German = schnapps or brandy. French=cognac or brandy. Brits and Yanks=anything they could get their mitts on!(Usually French wines or cognacs)

Welcome back and good to see you're out of the hospital!

I think maybe there were a few stills being operated as well.

I figured anything they could get their hands on, and did the Russians even have water in their canteens? I was sure it was Vodka.

Why else would they charge into machine guns and tanks without even a rifle in their hands?
