Default Who Was The German Horseman Of Paris?

An odd question, but one that I've always wondered. Just Who was "The German Horseman" leading the marching German troops through the Arc de Triomphe in Paris? It is an iconic photo that is immediately recognizable by all, but who was the mounted German in the lead? Some have said it was General Kurt von Briesen, and he was, indeed, famously photographed on horseback receiving a salute from the troops, but the German Horseman of Paris is certainly not him, so who was he? Has he ever been identified?

If I'm not mistaken, the Germans paraded there every day...much to the irritation of Parisians...

Still a great photo regardless, I just noticed the tall chap 2nd rank, far right column. Must be over 6 foot.

    Hello,
Sorry i cannot say who this Offizier is, the only thing i can say is that the marching troop didn't pass through L'Arc de Triomphe. This photo has been taken and reworked to look like they did, but actually that's not the case. Even the german army turned around L'Arc de Triomphe in order to parade and this i know it for sure.
    Thanks
