Default Books with complete list of all Heros of the Soviet Union.

Hi, as the members of this site are very knowledgable on many things. I figured I would post to you this, Does anyone here know of any English language books which lists every Societ Soldier to win the Hero of the Soviet Union?

I know of a Russian language book that has a complete list-and know where a copy is for sale. However, I cannot read Cyrillic so that's why im asking you knowledgable Gents here.

If there is no English language book n them-is there a website that lists all of them? I know of sites covering Medal of Honor Recipients, Victoria Cross Recipients and of course sites on the Knights Cross Recipients.

Also, while im on the subject-does anyone know of any published lists for all the men who won Frances hihest award.

    Best regards-H.B-1944.

As far as I know, there is nothing in English.

Even the well-known two-volume set in Russian only covers up through its date of publication, and some late-Soviet Hero awards are absent, I believe.

The Герои Страны site is very good, though it is only in Russian (not surprising). If you can tolerate the hilarious babble of mechanical translations, it is useful, but it is very hard to navigate without language skills. I wish there were an easy way to learn languages! RNA transplants??

Hi Paul, Ed, thank you for your help and I hope you will accept my apologies for not replying to this sooner. I had forgotten I had posted this.

    Many thanks and best regards--C.

PS, is there any site I can go to that shows me the english translation to Cyrillic letters? If so, please let me know. I found some names of men who were awarded the Alexander Nevsky Order and would like to see if I can translate the names I wrote down as a test for myself.

    Thanks again Gents--C.

This site is ideal. I use it a lot. You just type it in Cyrilic (use the keyboard icon) and it translates it into English:

PROMT - Free Text Translator - English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazilian) and Russian languages.

    Cheers, Ade.

Actually, I use the Prompt add-in for your browser. It isn't free, but it doesn't cost a lot. Makes Russian to English much easier (but equally hilarious).

    Thank you Ade, Ed, Pierre,

Ade, im going to check out that site. If I have to copy down every name then see if I can find a place that has a translation of Cyrillic letters to English letter-im going to do so ;-)) I heard that there were around 12,000 HotSu recipients. I wonder if that is an accurate ballpark figure?

I just checked out the ite and it sure can get a bit confusing in the numbers of these medals awarded. I think I got the "jist" of the numbers warded.
