Default Help needed- 415 ОПАБ-1st formation battle route

    Hi guys
I need some help with finding battle route of 415 seperate machine gun-artillery battalion (отедельный пулеметно артиллерийский баталион-ОПАБ) -1st formation existing from april 1942 untill march 1943.
I’d like to know to what front, army it was attached to, when, where etc.
I’ve tried to find it but I’ve only found informations about 2nd formation attached to 33rd army 1st BF.
    Any information will be interesting.
Best Regards and thank you in advance
    Jacob

Jacob, what makes you think that these are two different formations? Maybe it is the same 415 ОПАБ from 29 April 1942 to 09 May 1945.

The map of the fortified area 156 - the Moscow defence ring in April 1945.
Here you can see the sector assigned to 415 OPAB (lear Domodedovo, where airfield is located).
There is also handwritten mark "under formation", as the 415th was formed by the end of April 1942.

I was thinking that there were 2 formings of this unit due to what I’ve found but now I see I misunderstood the text and what I was thinking was date of existence of unit were periods in which battalion was attached to army.
Thank you for this map Igor. Im looking also for later feats of this unit. Soldier which Im trying to research was in this battalion since its forming untill October 1943 or April 1944. I know that during this his service in 415 OPAB he was wounded somewhere near Konotop in Ukraine in October 1943.
I’ve also found that 415 OPAB participied in March 1944 in fighting near Davidovichi Belarus but period May 1942-January 1944 remains unknown.
According to documents I have 415 OPAB until May 1942 remained in Moscow defense in western front but in May it was relocated. And here is a problem. One document says it was moved to central front and another says Voronezh front.
    Best Regards
    Jacob

Jacob, you need to refer to or post here the documents you used to make your conclusions on the unit. Otherwise it is difficult/impossible to analyze information.

In the meanwhile a document. I think you will find it interesting.

415 OPAB reports to the HQ of the Moscow Defensive Sector.
    "Sent 20 May 1942 @13:00; Recieved @14:02.
To the chief deputy commander of Moscow Defensive Sector.
I report, that 415 OPAB has taken the position on the defence line on 19 May 1942 @20:00.
The battalion has absolutely no rifles nor heavy MGs.
8 guns 76mm intended for 415 OPAB, which has arrived on the rail station KHANINO, has been deployed on the firing positions. Ammunition for them is missing."

That's very interesting. Gives not only a location but also a situation of a battalion. Thank you.
Here are some of documents I have.
First are locations given in soldier's citation, first from september 1944 says Western Front 1.41 (he was not in army in Jan. 1941 so it's a mistake) till may 1942, later Voronezh front may 1942-Jan 1944 and this mentioned wound received in October 1943 (not sure if it's correct and where was really 415 OPAB at this time)
Another citation from May 1945 says June 1941-may 1942 Western front (415 OPAB was formed in western front area so that's correct and both citationes mentiones the same) then Central front may 1942-Jan. 1944

Anyway, back to citation with mentioned wound received near Konotop-Sumy oblast, Ukraine. I've checked citations of 415 OPAB soldiers who distinguished themselves later, mostly late 1944-1945, all of them arrived to unit on 23 May 1943 in central front later renamed to Belarussian front and unit went with 1st BF till the end of war while Konotop was in 1st Ukrainian front area of operations, however in early 1944 415 OPAB operated in south-east Belarus near Sumy oblast.

Second thing which could help with ID is when 415 OPAB was attached to 119th fortified region. For sure was part of it in January 1944 till the end of war. My guess is that it was after 415 OPAB was sent to reserve in march 1943 and then sent to 119UR. If so then for sure it was in Kursk area in July 1943.

Note for soldier's ID book confirming his service in 415 OPAB and note that he participied in combat with 1st UF since april 1944 what matches Red Star ciatation form sept. 1944. There is also a citation for combat merit but I can only "For meritorious fighting…" and them somethink I can't read, also some abbreviation. It's dated february 1943 so time when he was in 415 OPAB. Maybe this will geave some information about unit's location at this time?

The entries on the first page read: “For excellent combat and political readiness awarded with RKKA badge - Feb 1943 - 1. BAttery commander Sr. Lt. XXXXX”.
    “1 Ukrainian front- IV.1944”
    “Order Red Star 06. 10.44 decree #025”

    Thanks.
I have one more piece of info-415 OPAB (?) near frontline in July 1942 but this was south of Veliky Novgorod. Also this was named as 415 OTPB-was it the same unit?
That's much more to the north than it was in May 1942.
