been using ancestry.co.uk but cant find service records

[metallica fish]

looking to find origional copies of anything on my great grandad. my dad has asked me to look. my dad and grandad are looking to get some replacment for some medals he left when he died. (i can only asume they were his) they were taken by my uncle and stolen from him by his step son (so the story goes)

heres what i have:

jack fish
born 29 feb 1916
died jan 1989
joined the royal navy 05 oct 1942
left 03 jul 1946

service number JR376262 (the R could also be K)

any help would be great because i cant find anything on ancestry

You won't find his records there as they have not been released into the public domain by the MOD. Only WW1 stuff is aviaable there.
