Help With Home Guard Map References
Hi
I have just come across some information regarding my villages Home Guard and I was wondering if anyone could help me with some map references?
On the General Alarm being sounded all men will go at once with arms and ammunition to the Battle Posts to
which they have been detailed. All others must report immediately to St Georges Club. The seven Battle Posts
selected, more or less form a perimeter round the village of Benenden.
Sheet 126
No 1 Goddards Green 255 530 P. Leney
No 2 Colebarn 275 524 Clegg
No 3 Pullington 255 510 Barham
No 4 Dingleden 254 496 Blandford
No 5 Iden Green 239 498 G. Harden
No 6 Scullsgate 230 511 Syer
No 7 Mounts 234 521 Rennnie
Im guessing that Sheet 126 is to do with a map, if so which?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Cameron

Re: Help With Home Guard Map References
I would guess it is the old OS map number, as sheet 126 is now in N Devon, but the old ones might have been different

Jerry
Whatever
its just an opinion.

Re: Help With Home Guard Map References
The ordnance survey 1940 wartime map sheet 126 is of Kent, so that may be the one.

Hi Cameron,
those co-ordinates are for the British Cassini Grid in use at the time. Use this modern converter:
The "Coordinates Translator"
Enter Wr and then the grid ref you want to convert. Eg - Wr255530
This will show you, on google maps, where the coordinate is. It's a great tool I have used for cross referencing many military maps.
Cheers, Tom
