    Default Madonna dell'Albero

During WW2, my grandad was 48th Royal Tank Regiment serving throughout the duration, but he died before I was born. All I have are some papers including some intriguing pictures. Here are a couple, he's written the back of these, 'The graves of 56 people killed by the Germans at the village of Madona L'Abra near Ravena'.

I’ve only recently found out by trawling the net - trying lots of spelling permutations - that this was an atrocity committed by German troops of the 721st Regiment of the 114th Jaeger Division commanded by Colonel Lothar Berger at Madonna dell'Albero, Ravenna, Italy, 27 November 1944, supposedly as punishment for a partisans killing a German soldier, but there's not much out there in English.
Can anyone help with a bit more detail on this story?
