It's the march "Alte Kameraden". The respective part of the lyrics is:

"Lachen, scherzen, lachen, scherzen, heute ist ja heut'
Morgen ist das ganze Regiment wer weiß wie weit
    "

Yep, Andre Rieu performs this in his concerts.

"Laughing, joking, laughing, joking, today is today. Tomorrow is the whole regiment, who knows how far?" (to march?).

Well, that's my best effort to interpret but I think it is close

I am sure Andreas can fine tune it for me

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."

Not necessary, really. That's the meaning.

Wish I could claim credit for those videos, Gimmie!

But there's some great videos on youtube - the best ones for me are the "Deutsche Wochenschau" ones - plenty of footage I've never seen before....
