Named M1917A1 - No Luck with ID

We picked a nice named M1917A1 helemt at an antique shop over the weekend but I've not been able to come up with any specifics on the soldier, maybe one of you experts at this stuff might have better luck.

Written on the liner it looks to read as follows:

P.F.C Preston

Hq. Det., 3Bn, 185 EnJ (??)





Any help with this ID would be greatly appreciated.
