Hello, Only today I found out from my mother that my great grandfather was a pilot during WW2! I would really like to find out more about him but I'm not too sure of the best way to go about it.

I have noticed the other threads about finding relatives/veterans but I wasn't too sure if it was the same for pilots?

Any help would be greatly apreciated

    Many thanks in advance

    James

Well, James, let's start with his nationality, then in which air force or army air corps or marine corps he served....not necessarily the same, for example some of the RAF's most distinguished pilots were Polish or Czech, and at least one Royal Marine officer flew in the Battle of Britain, if I recall.

Good to know whose side he was on.

Was he an officer? Fighters or bombers? Or transport ?

Where did he serve? Based in the UK, Germany, Russia?

Served in North Africa? Burma, or with the Flying Tigers in China? Or was he Japanese?

We can try and help and point you towards some websites but we have to have some basics.

    Good luck,

    Pat
