Researching a WW2 U.S Airman

Hello all,
I was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction for researching a U.S. serviceman.
I thought there might be something similar to our WW Nominal Roll and archives, but found nothing so far.

The serviceman in question was an American pen-friend of my father, when they were kids. The only information I have is this postcard, sent by his mother to my grandparents in 1944 when he was in training in the U.S. Apparently he was up in the islands somewhere in 1945, at the same time my father was there with the 2/9th AIF, but they never got to meet in person.

Not sure what is written directly after Sqd 27. It's followed by AAFCC-SAAAB.

May be a basic flight training picture.......
