Having a tough time finding service records for one, or maybe two, WW2 U.S. Marines. I have an early USMC Ka-Bar with the name of H. Johnstone #374623 carved in the sheath. There is also a note attached that reads Maj. John H. Johnstone. The Majors Service # is 036452 and is a quite prolific fellow. Wondering if both are the same Marine?

Could not find anything from the 374623 asn. Major John H. Johnstone was one of the official Marine Corps historians, I'm not sure how likely it is you have found his Ka-Bar but haven't found anything on the officer asn either so far.
