    I personally have no problems with the "base" buckle shown here. As to the finish, perhaps this is a very late war silver painting of the HJ buckle. Only my guarded 2 cents I as I have been far removed from the collecting arena for the past year. I'm sure Chad will provide a more definitive analysis of the buckle shown.

    In my opinion everything looks correct. Only still it repainted steel in Nickel.

    My Russian colleagues believe that the modern paint.

    Looking at he other one Zep in comparison I would say the buckle is indeed original, as the paint looks a bit grainy and too fresh if that makes sense, I think your Russian friends are right
