    For me this is a good item. Often mistakenly identified as signifying "Leadership" by sellers and dealers you are correct, the traditionslitze was introduced in 1934. See the Saris reference for specific details as to who was qualified to wear this, as the information is quite lengthy in the book.

    It's the abbreviation for the Latin word numero [number], although its use is not a specifically German practice. See:

    Numero sign - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    (It's a bit archaic these days; nowadays, the abbreviation "Nr." [for the actual German word Nummer] is almost universally used in German.)
