I am far from an expert, but this one does not sit right with me. I believe the HJ diamond should have a fish scale or strawberry bumpy pattern to the red enamel.

    Compare to mine:

The later ones 1940-1942 had the diamonds like this. I'm more concerned about the maker mark and the missing RZM stamp.

The untextured diamond and the English text "Germany" are bad signs. Still that doesn't necessarily mean the dagger is bad. I would recommend posting a picture of the whole knife so the HJ guys can give you a better opinion. I've never heard of the smooth diamond being late war?

With all due respect, that's incorrect.

I believe this is a post-war boy scout knife that was made to the same dimensions as TR era HJ knives. Someone added the bogus HJ diamond to fool potential buyers.

Building off of this, HJ diamonds are never any color but red.

With all due respect to Mac, these aren't exactly words I'd be willing to put money down on.

This is a recent repro with a possible real diamond. The knife itself is a 1960s or 70s make,,and should not spell in English.."Germany. The G.C.Co 420 logo on the opposite side of the ricasso is a widely used company in reproducing these knives. i have one of these myself which makes a great camping tool.
To support also the information listed on Pauls website if you scroll down a bit further the good and the bad are listed. Regardless of the diamond,, this dagger is recent, below is the "good and bad" Regards Larry

    GOOD:

    Honest even wear
Magnetic scabbard with rivet to the front
    Cotton liner covers
    Loose HJ diamonds
    Fish scale red enamel
    Flecked gold swastika background

    BAD

RZM designation on the obverse, (normally found to reverse) riccasso
    Casting seams on the hilt
    Poorly fit grip plates
    New smelling leather
    Alloy non-magnetic scabbards
    Minty factory fresh
    Banged up poorly formed rivets
"Germany" anywhere on the knife or scabbard
    Motto with no makers name
Motto with RZM Blades dated 1939 and later
    Solid red on the diamonds
