I had the good fortune to find this on the weekend. The seller was not terribly concerned about the price since it has more than enough moth nips. I bought it for 25 Canadian.
Great War regalia is not my forte. I am not sure about how authentic. I totally went on how warn the inside liner is. That's a lot of dirt and sweat.
Any information on this would be appreciated.

To my untutored eye, not being a specialised WW1 collector, this looks original. I like what I see. You could not even buy a fake at that price!

    Cheers, Ade.

Like Ade says, fakes are usually more $$$
I like the cap too, it certainly looks period and worn. Good find !!

( Was this in Markham, Saturday? I also heard of
a vendor who sold a complete WWII german helmet
for only $200.00 CDN ! ! Might have been be the same seller.....)

I'll post my "questionable" finds from my day there
    on another thread...............

I bought it in Woodstock on Sunday.
Missed the Markham show -was that the show usually held at the Fairgrounds?

That's something about the helmet. I'm surprised that a dealer would low ball it like that. He must have known something that we don't.

    Yes, the fairgrounds....

I arrived too late to see that helmet, but I know sometimes
novice dealers are unaware of just what is in their posession
and/or the value. They are there as collectors or accumulators
who simply want to sell some stuff off.......

Let's see a few more knowledgeable responses to your nice mutze !

SatansCabanaBoy, a very nice salty M1910 (although introduced in 1907)enlisted mans peakless cap, the Feldmutze. This particular example is for infantry, having a red coloured cap band (Besatzstreifen) and red piping around the top. unfortunatly it is difficult to know what 'state' it is from, i.e. Prussia,Bavaria, Saxony etc, as the hat has had the Landeskokarde which is affixed to the red band either replaced with another black/white/red German national cockade (which is always on the top on the field gray material), or repainted. If Prussian the lower cockade would be black/white/black. There are 22 colour combinations for the various States. I see the cap is marked on the inside, is it ' BA I 1910 ' ?.... if so, this is the stamp for 1st army corps East Prussia, clothing depot (Bekliedungsamt), and if so should sport a Prussian cockade.

Heres a list of all 22 cockades (21 shown as Hamburg and Lubeck share the same cockade) :-

    Thanks Oradour, very helpful.

The stamp you see clearly in the picture I believe says RA 1 1916

the sweatband is so discoloured, you would need a CSI lab to find any other markings

I'm really glad that it has passed the grade. It's nice to luck out and rescue a piece of military from the depths of a dusty box in a flea market, and put it in a place to be looked after.
