Infantry Officers Cap -a late war production

My latest cap find is a fine example of an Infantry Officers service cap circa 1916 onwards.

It is made from a whipcord field grey material and has the distinctive 3mm width of wool material along the bottom, underneath the cap band. This is found on many wartime production caps.

The peak is pressed cardboard and although the inside lining gives the impression of silk the top crown material is actually paper !

The sweatband is oilcloth and these features show the strain the country was under in respect of raw materials at this point in the war.
