Hello guys what do you think of this one? I don't like the edges of the core. It seems like the core was cut and placed in the frame.

donkihotis, this type of core is the so-called "SCHINKEL" stepped iron core of the 1813 EK, and by this time (1870-71) was no longer in evidence, except for some miniatures and Prinzen type crosses. So therefore on this evidence alone it is a fake. Serious study of the 1870 EK is needed if one is to invest in an example....Greg (Chopperman) has provided pointers and information on these crosses, I think in the extensive thread on EK's it is a "Sticky" in the Imperial sub section, have a look.

I do not have this particular cross in my files but from the pictures provided. i don't like it.
As Steve said, the stepped core is a big red flag. So is the over/under style 8 in the 1870
date. Another red flag to me is the fact that in all the sellers pictures, the obverse crown
is always turned away from the camera and out of focus. The crown details are one of the
best tools in identifing crosses. Also it appears that the seams where the two halves of the
silver frame is put together look wide and uneven.

My own opinion is that this might have started life a s a good 1914 and has been re-cored with a fake 1870 core.
